Farmers cheated under the Vermicompost scheme in Bihar

India is a land of farmers. It is also a land of farmer suicides - the major culprit being Corruption.

Indian Government encourages farmers to use organic fertilisers by using earthworms to make Vermicompost. Under Capital Investment Subsidy Scheme of National Project on Organic Farming (NPOF), financial assistance was provided for various horticulture activities in 2014. Assistance was provided up to Rs.30,000 per unit for setting up Vermicompost units.  This scheme included subsidised materials to make these units.

But this scheme failed in Dumri village of West Champaran, Bihar because of corruption. Babulal, one of the farmers residing in Dumri village was asked to make Vermicompost by the Block Officer  but he did not receive any money under the scheme. When the farmers went to the Block Office, the officers demanded a bribe for the work to be done.

Through this video, Community Correspondent Tanju Devi calls for action to ensure that these families are paid the amount due to them at the earliest.
